Ingredients
  

  • 1 lb ground beef or mix of beef & pork
  • 12 oz spaghetti
  • 1 onion finely chopped
  • 1 carrot finely chopped
  • 1 celery stalk finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 can 28 oz crushed tomatoes
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 tsp dried Italian herbs
  • 1 bay leaf
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • Fresh basil & Parmesan for serving

Instructions
 

  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet, sauté onion, carrot, and celery until softened.

  • Add ground beef, season with salt and pepper, and cook until browned.

  • Stir in garlic and tomato paste, cook 1–2 minutes.

  • Add crushed tomatoes, broth/, herbs, and bay leaf. Simmer 30–40 minutes.

  • Meanwhile, cook spaghetti in salted water until al dente. Drain.

  • Toss pasta with some sauce, serve with extra sauce on top.

Notes

Sauce can be made ahead and frozen. Add a splash of milk for extra richness.
