Ingredients

Meat Sauce
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 small yellow onion diced
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper freshly ground
  • 48 ounces spaghetti sauce two 24-ounce jars
Assembly
  • 4 garlic bread bowls hollowed
  • 1.5 cups shredded mozzarella
  • 0.5 cup grated Parmesan

Method

Meat Sauce
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook ground beef until browned, about 5–7 minutes.
  3. Add diced onion and minced garlic; sauté until onion is translucent and garlic is fragrant, about 2 minutes.
  4. Stir in salt, pepper, and spaghetti sauce; bring to a simmer and cook 5 minutes to thicken.
Assembly
  1. Arrange bread bowls on the baking sheet and spoon meat sauce evenly into each.
  2. Top with mozzarella and Parmesan, ensuring the cheese covers the sauce edge to edge.
  3. Bake until cheese is bubbling and golden, about 10–12 minutes. Let cool 2–3 minutes before serving.

Notes

Prep testing: I found that toasting the bread bowls before filling prevents soggy bottoms.
Cooking testing: Simmering the sauce an extra two minutes yielded a richer, thicker texture.
Storage testing: Leftovers reheat best covered with foil in a 350°F oven for ten minutes.
