Method
Cobbler Batter
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Butter a 9×13-inch baking dish liberally.
- Pour the melted butter into the prepared dish, sprinkle granulated sugar evenly over it, and drizzle vanilla extract on top.
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt; stir in milk until just combined—batter should be thick.
- Spoon the batter evenly over the sugar layer in the baking dish without smoothing completely.
Spiced Pear Filling
- In a large bowl, toss the sliced pears with brown sugar, lemon juice, ground cinnamon, ground ginger, and ground cloves.
- Spoon the pear mixture evenly over the batter; do not stir to allow layers to form.
- Bake for 45–50 minutes, until the top turns golden and the filling bubbles along the edges.
- Let the cobbler rest for 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
Slice pears uniformly to ½-inch thick to ensure even baking and tender texture.
For a twist, swap half the pears with tart apples to add extra tang and color contrast.
