Ingredients

Cobbler Batter

  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 0.75 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract pure
  • 1.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.75 cup milk

Spiced Pear Filling

  • 5 cups peeled and sliced pears about 5 medium pears
  • 0.5 cup light brown sugar packed
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 0.125 teaspoon ground cloves

Instructions

Cobbler Batter

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Butter a 9×13-inch baking dish liberally.
  • Pour the melted butter into the prepared dish, sprinkle granulated sugar evenly over it, and drizzle vanilla extract on top.
  • In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt; stir in milk until just combined—batter should be thick.
  • Spoon the batter evenly over the sugar layer in the baking dish without smoothing completely.

Spiced Pear Filling

  • In a large bowl, toss the sliced pears with brown sugar, lemon juice, ground cinnamon, ground ginger, and ground cloves.
  • Spoon the pear mixture evenly over the batter; do not stir to allow layers to form.
  • Bake for 45–50 minutes, until the top turns golden and the filling bubbles along the edges.
  • Let the cobbler rest for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

Slice pears uniformly to ½-inch thick to ensure even baking and tender texture.
For a twist, swap half the pears with tart apples to add extra tang and color contrast.
